Masato
Yoshino's inhuman speed and quickness make him one of the most dynamic,
exciting and potent performers in Dragon Gate USA. We were able to slow
him down enough to find out about the man outside the ring.
Yoshino actually had no interest in pro wrestling when he was growing
up. His love was baseball and he dreamed of being a pro player. Yoshino
spent his time competing on the diamond in both baseball and softball.
He still likes to play regularly, as he is a pitcher on "Team Dragon
Gate" with an effective fastball, curveball, slider and change
up. He even hit two consecutive home runs in the team's first game.
Yoshino's baseball dream turned to pro wrestling when he was just switching
channels on his TV one day.
"One day I watched Antonio Inoki's wrestling by accident,"
Yoshino said. "Something inside of me was telling me it was my
calling. Ever since that day, I started watching pro wrestling shows
and wanted to be a wrestler little by little."
Yoshino immediately found a major obstacle when he tried to break into
wrestling. Most dojo's had a height requirement. However, Yoshino soon
discovered Toryumon, which paved the way for Dragon Gate. His athletic
ability and tools made him a natural for the Toryumon style.
"My body size and type made me a perfect fit for Toryumon,"
Yoshino said.
Yoshino's discipline helped him learn his pro wrestling craft. In fact,
Yoshino's work ethic could even be seen in his high school days as he
was never late and never missed a day of class. His teachers say he
always studied the most. His passion in the classroom carried over to
sports as his coaches state he always practiced the hardest.
Yoshino likes to spend time alone when he's not on the road due to Dragon
Gate's relentless touring schedule. This is his time to unwind. It is
a rare treat for Yoshino to be able to sleep in his own bed. Yoshino
will also relax by spending some time behind the wheel and in the pool
as he is an avid swimmer.
"I love driving and American cars," Yoshino said. "My
first car was American made and I am still driving an American one right
now."
Yoshino has been on a hot streak in DGUSA. He is determined to keep
that going in Phoenix on March 26th when he faces rival Shingo and March
27th when he takes part in the traditional Dragon Gate six man tag as
he teams with Naruki Doi and BxB Hulk to battle CIMA, Gamma and Dragon
Kid (tickets now on sale in the DGUSA.tv Store
or by calling 267-519-9744).
"I am always looking forward to being in the States every other
month," Yoshino said. "I am so excited about our Phoenix shows
right now. I want American fans to enjoy our best matches in the States.
See you soon in Phoenix!"
