Note: All this week at DGUSA.tv we will preview each first round match in the tournament to crown the first Open The Freedom Gate Champion on November 28th in Philadelphia at The Arena. This is the second of four installments. Please leave your comments on this match at the end of this article. DGUSA officials had a plan in mind with this one. It would be a "Salute To Skayde" three-way match, with all three participants having roots back to Jorge "Skayde" Rivera. However, when word got out that CHIKARA was bringing Rivera to Philadelphia for their 11/22 event and to train at their school, the competitors in this contest had an idea. In the ultimate salute to Rivera why not give him one last shot at singles championship glory? Now the "Salute To Skayde" first round match will pit Jorge Rivera vs. CIMA vs. Mike Quackenbush vs. Super Crazy. There is a deep history in this one. It has been well documented that Rivera trained both CIMA and Quackenbush. Therefore, no one is more influential on both the Dragon Gate and CHIKARA style than Rivera. However, the history between Rivera and Super Crazy is not as amicable. Rivera defeated Super Crazy during Crazy's rookie year in 1988. In fact, Crazy was only 14 at the time. As a result, Rivera took Crazy's mask at that young age. The feud between these two would continue years later in AAA in the 90s. Super Crazy was part of Rudos de la Galaxia and Rivera was a member of Los Cadetos del Espacio. This was one of AAA's most intense feuds. One has to wonder if the bad blood still lingers, especially for Super Crazy. This will be something to keep an eye on in this bout. However, both Rivera and Crazy have to stay focused on the big prize. Why Rivera will win: This is Rivera's last chance to win singles gold in the United States. It would also cement his legacy as the grandfather of Dragon Gate USA. Rivera winning the belt will be a truly great story. He knows everyone's strengths and weaknesses and can still go with the best of them. Why CIMA will win: He is the icon of Dragon Gate, the face of the promotion and has held every title associated with Dragon Gate except for this one. CIMA is coming off momentum by defeating Brian Kendrick on the last show and the belt would signify him as the patriarch of DGUSA. Why Mike Quackenbush will win: The CHIKARA founder always gives his opponents fits with his innovative style. He is well prepared for battle against all three of these athletes. Quackenbush would give DGUSA an American face to build around. Why Super Crazy will win: He is coming with something to prove. He wants to show that he is still the world class talent that walked into The Arena 10 years ago. Crazy has shown that he's still got it recently in All Japan, going to the finals of their junior tournament. Crazy has a chip on his shoulder and the only way he can knock it off is to win the Open The Freedom Gate title. Once again, we have another match that is a pick 'em. All four men make a strong case for being the first Open The Freedom Gate Champion. It should be noted that this match will be one fall and have a different format than the four-way elimination main event finals. All of these athletes match up with each other perfectly, but only one will advance. Leave us your thoughts and tell us who you think it will be. Tickets
