DGUSA shocked the wrestling scene by announcing pay-per-view in 60 million
homes, starting on September 4th when "Enter The Dragon" premieres
on iN DEMAND, TVN, Viewer's Choice and Bell ExpressVU. This has raised
some questions. We answer the three most frequently asked questions
right here:
Q: Are all DGUSA events being taped for PPV?
A: Yes, that is the plan right now. Both 7/25 in Philly and 9/6 in Chicago
will air on PPV. We feel this makes these cards even bigger events.
Every DGUSA is important and there are no "house shows."
Q: Why is the first PPV called "Enter The Dragon" while the
7/25 event it is being taped at is called "Open The Historic Gate"?
A: The DVDs and PPVs will both be formatted differently. The 7/25 event
will be edited into a high-octane, action-packed, made-for-TV two hour
PPV. This will be called "Enter The Dragon" and premiere on
the Friday of Labor Day Weekend. The PPV will also feature exclusive
interviews, videos and more. This will be 100% PPV exclusive as the
plan is not to release the PPV straight to DVD. The 7/25 DVD will keep
the integrity of the live event, which is why it goes by the "Open
The Historic Gate" moniker. DGUSA live events will be longer than
two hours. The DVDs will maintain the flow of the live event card and
also feature bonus items like the Fray match. DVDs will be released
approximately one month after the PPV premiere date, so PPV remains
the fastest and most accessible way to see the matches. While the DVDs
and PPVs will feature some of the same content, the presentation of
each will be exclusive so that is why they are going by two different
event names.
Q: Why go on PPV?
A: Pay-per-view was in the plans since the conception of DGUSA, we just
had to wait until the deals were signed to announce it. PPV is a great
way to make DGUSA easily available in tens of millions of homes. DGUSA
offers something that no one else does on wrestling PPV. It was an opportunity
to really put a modernized style that is pretty much unseen in the United
States right on cable. The fact they are taped does not effect continuity
since there are so few DGUSA shows and they are all taped for PPV. The
lone drawback is the delay in DVD release, but at the same time DGUSA
will now be offered in 60 million living rooms with just a click of
the remote. This is an opportunity to bring something new and fresh
to the cable universe and satisfy our niche audience.
Wrestling on your TV will get exciting again when DGUSA premieres on
PPV on September 4th. We'll have much more on this in the upcoming weeks.
Thank you for reading and asking questions.
